
Tick season
With the arrival of the first sunny days with temperatures stably above 7 °C, tick activity increases in the Czech Republic, which can also transmit dangerous diseases (tick-borne encephalitis, Lyme disease).
People often associate ticks with the warm summer months and domestic holidays (including mushroom picking), but they usually become active at the end of March. Even colder weather is no guarantee of safety.
Research by experts confirms the increasingly frequent occurrence of ticks in urban environments, namely:
The risks associated with ticks can be successfully prevented by following basic preventive measures. During normal outdoor activities, appropriately selected clothing (long sleeves and pants) and the use of quality repellents provide effective protection.
The most effective protection against tick-borne encephalitis is vaccination. There is no vaccine against Lyme disease yet. It is advisable to think about prevention before the main season begins.
