Allergic rhinitis

Placeholder

It is an allergic disease of the nasal mucosa and its main symptoms are:

  • irritation of the nasal mucosa,
  • increased production of watery mucus,
  • sneezing,
  • nasal congestion.

These symptoms are manifested in different representation, in different intensity and frequency, and also with different influence on the quality of life.

Allergens are among the most common substances that cause allergic rhinitis. These can occur seasonally (mainly pollen from grasses, spring bushes and trees, weeds, etc.) or year-round (mainly indoor allergens – dust mites, mold, pet allergens, etc.).

Types of allergic rhinitis:

  • seasonal (occurrence of difficulties exclusively in the pollen season, regularly affected conjunctivae, increased secretion from the nose, cross-allergy to fruits, vegetables, etc.),
  • year-round (predominance of congestion and swelling of the nasal mucosa, often caused by non-specific factors, non-allergic hyperreactive idiopathic rhinitis has a similar course).

Therapy:

  • regime measures (environmental modification – removal of allergens, luxuries, dusting, bedding care),
  • administration of allergen immunotherapy (long-term administration of low doses of an allergen causing hypersensitivity),
  • pharmacotherapy (selected from several groups of drugs with different mechanisms of action and different forms of administration, applied for a short time - immediate relief or long-term).

In case of pollen allergy, you can use the services of the pollen information service and plan your stay in nature according to the current occurrence of pollen in the air.
