eVouchers in practice
eVouchers are electronic vouchers for medical devices and their functionality will replace paper vouchers from January 1, 2026.
Each voucher has a unique nine-digit identifier generated and, after being issued, is stored in the so-called Central Repository of Electronic Vouchers (= it is part of the eRecept information system).
The validity period is 30 days (as with paper vouchers) and can be extended by the doctor for up to 1 year.
The doctor can provide the patient with the eVoucher identifier using:
As standard, one item can be prescribed on an eVoucher. If the prescription of medical devices requires approval by a health insurance company, this condition must also be met for the eVoucher.
Exceptions to the requirement for a paper voucher are set out by law (e.g. vouchers issued for family members, in urgent cases or for serious technical reasons).
The electronic form of the voucher prevents counterfeiting and allows patients to view the history of prescribed and dispensed medical devices at any time.
