New system of co-payments for medicines

Placeholder

From January 1, 2025, we will see a fundamental change in the system of deductible co-payments for partially reimbursed medications. This new feature means that if patients exceed the protective limit during the year, they will no longer have to wait for a refund of overpayments from the health insurance company, and these deductible co-payments will not be charged at the pharmacy.

What does a deductible surcharge mean?
In each group of drugs, there is always a cheapest drug with the lowest co-payment (= this one is counted towards the protective limit).

Amount of protective limits:
• 500 CZK for seniors over 70 years of age and for persons with disability of the III. degree, II. degree (if they do not receive a disability pension),
• 1000 CZK for children under 18 and seniors from 65 to 69 years old,
• 5000 CZK for other adults.

The deductible co-payments will now be recorded via the ePrescription system. Patients can check the limit in the ePrescription application or can ask the pharmacy to issue a document stating the deductible co-payment.

However, the obligation to pay remains:
• the non-reimbursable part of the additional payment,
• the full price of medications without insurance reimbursement.

This system should simplify administrative processes for health insurance companies, pharmacies and patients.
